The Hirschau substation is a building complex erected in 1930 by Stadtwerke München.
The architectural design by city planning officer Fritz Beblo includes the control house, long building, workshop and the 25-kilovolt house.
With its exposed brickwork and flat roofs, the design of the industrial monument follows the New Objectivity style, which later became famous as Bauhaus architecture.
The transformer station was built to supply power to the Maffai locomotive works in Hirschau, which were located approximately at today's Seehaus.
For this purpose, the electricity from several hydroelectric power stations on the middle Isar Canal to Moosburg was managed via switchgear and transformed to the respective voltages until 2003.
