Oficina 2 is a project started in 2015 and promoted by the Cooperativa de Recuperação de Património Edificado, which is part of a sustained strategy to reactivate and restore the old granite sawmilling and processing workshops of the century-old Cooperativa dos Pedreiros in Porto.
Between the landscapes of the mountains, the river and the sea, the city of Oporto is closely watched, contemplating its granite solidity, which can largely be understood from these workshops.
Initially designed in 1937 by the architect David Moreira da Silva, who was later joined by his wife, the architect Maria José Marques da Silva, with whom he shared the other projects that have come to define the current spatial character of the former industrial complex.
The Oficina 2 project is located in one of the old granite processing workshops that have been deactivated and its aim is to propose a contemporary occupation of its space, ensuring its co-existence with its exceptional spatial character and all its successive historical marks from the old industrial activity, thus enhancing the interpretation of the remaining spaces, activities and their historical relationship with the city.
