The Athlone Community Development Association, which is wholly owned by the community, was established in 1992 as an initiative of the Rotary Club of Athlone to stimulate employment generating activities in Athlone.
The Society is a not-for-profit organization and has charitable status. The registered trading name of the Society is Athlone Community Taskforce (ACT).
In 1992 the Society purchased premises in Ball Alley Lane, Athlone. It developed a Business Development Centre to provide an incubation space for new businesses and to house the Society’s headquarters and the Athlone Community Taskforce.
It operates through effective partnerships between community groups, statutory bodies and social partners.
ACT’s main priority was to identify key measures needed to tackle unemployment and to undertake effective initiatives to address disadvantage in the community.
